Apple Event Recap: iPhone SE & 9.7” iPad Pro

Another Apple keynote is in the books and along with it the world has two more new Apple devices to get excited about. This morning Apple revealed their new 4-inch iPhone SE and a 9.7-inch iPad Pro as well as updates to iOS, tvOS and new Apple Watch bands.

Keynote Highlights

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook lead off the keynote immediately addressing Apple’s recent legal battle with the FBI, reiterating Apple’s strong commitment to protecting your privacy. The keynote then proceeded to detail Apple’s successes in regards to their environmental commitments, as well as the growing impact of Apple in the medical sector with ResearchKit and the new app CareKit, which further empowers caretakers and patients.

Apple revealed the hotly anticipated 4-inch iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which are detailed below. Additionally, updates to tvOS, iOS 9.3 and additional Apple Watch bands were announced. Cook closed the keynote out by revealing preliminary photos of the new campus and Apple’s excitement to move and get on with their next 40 years.

iPhone SE – “The most powerful 4-inch phone ever”

After months of speculation, today Apple finally revealed a return to the 4-inch iPhone design with their new iPhone SE. Although they started with a beloved design, the new iPhone SE has been “reinvented from the inside out.” The iPhone SE has the same A9 chip as the iPhone 6s, a 12-megapixel camera for hi-definition photos and 4K videos, and also has the capability to shoot Live Photos. iPhone SE ordering opens on Thursday, March 24, and launches on a week later on March 31.

9.7-inch iPad Pro

The iPad Pro is now officially defined by Apple as “the ultimate PC replacement.” Today Apple revealed a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro that is being put forth in Apple’s effort to supplant PC computing with iPad Pro tablets. Arguably not too much is distinct about the new model announced today from the 12.9-inch model, but Apple believes the iPad Pro series empowers users to “leap past most portable PCs” with just their fingertips. The new 9.7-inch model ordering opens March 24 and will be available for purchase on March 31. The original 12.9-inch iPad Pro is already available for purchase.
